I viewed this project as an opportunity to try something different. Having recently completed a Fine Art Degree at the Limerick School of Art and Design, I looked forward to creating work which wasn't going to be graded or judged in the same way, as would have been within the confines of an academic institution. I often struggle with working within the realms of a sketchbook, so to some degree, committing to this project was also an exercise in self discipline. The work you see within, was created using only a black ink fine tip pen. The subject matter is, for the most part, unplanned and/or subconsciously drawn. This was a large step away from my usual more methodical and meticulous way of working. The story unfolds in an almost entirely unplanned, organic fashion. Some pages relate to one another weaving a narrative, while others, are more isolated fragments of thoughts and ideas. The sketchbook was a way for me to escape from reality occasionally, to work through the goings on within the back of my mind.
