The series of notebook drawings are part of ‘First Form’ the two dimensional aspect of a much larger and ongoing exploration into Australian plant form that I am currently working on, and which encompasses research from a variety of regions which is then transformed into two main installations of ‘drawing’ and sculpture under the overall heading of ‘Phytomorphs’.

First Form drawings are based on an observation and analysis of the minutiae of plant forms that grow in and around the areas where I reside or visit and spend much of my time walking in. The tiny forms are observed over time and their changes and metamorphosis noted. The forms always begin as a dot or sphere and develop or morph into an infinite variety of mathematical form and pattern.

The ’drawings’ are developing into a formal language of symbols.
