While compiling this Artist Statement i noticed the similarities to the Slow Food Movement. Sketchbooks need time, application, good ingredients resulting in a credible end product for digestion. This project contains these elements; talented people from all walks of life, giving of their time, imagination and creativity become part of a bigger community enterprise and spirit. I love drawing but dropped Art for Chemistry (reluctantly) for CAO points. I rekindled my interest when i inherited my late fathers art materials. To date, i have completed three sketchbooks for this project. Sketchbooks allow me personal space, time to slow down and pay attention to life around me. I draw primarily for myself, i also inherited my fathers offbeat sense of humor. Hopefully the public are entertained also and that no one is offended in the meantime. By taking time to engage with life around me, i often find that when i look at past sketchbooks, i can be brought back to these occasions as if they were just occurring. It is also a slow cooker for embryos of ideas, and i will often return to develop further work from these.
