When I first signed up I had great intentions of doing a drawing everyday, spending the summer filling the notebook with sketches. As I didn’t open the notebook until September that plan didn’t work. I had a million ideas but couldn’t figure out where to start, it just took shape as I sketched. After a couple of sketches a nature theme developed. I drew the subjects from life and wanted to find a way to preserve them. after much trial and error I decided to laminate them. This worked for some but not all. I should have pressed the flower first and the wings fell off the bee. I stuck two pages together to make a pocket for the laminated pages to fit into. With days to go before the notebook had to be submitted, I still had a lot of blank pages to fill, using air drying clay I made a nasturtium flower, i used spray paint and varnish to finish it, glued it to the last page and cut a circle in the remaining pages to frame it. I would never have spent the time doing this if I hadn’t signed up for the Project. The notebook would still be gathering dust, if it ever even got to that stage. It’s a brilliant idea and it really helps the creative juices to flow. I would encourage everyone to take part and if you decide at the closing date not to submit you don’t have to. I am very thankful to have been part of this project.
