My notebook is a combination of detailed, time consuming drawings alongside quick, loose sketches. The content is an exploration of my ideas and subjectivity during summer 2013. I use primarily a fine liner pen and usually restrict myself to the line in monochrome. Colour can complicate the idea for me and requires a lot of time and thought. The difference in carefully considered work and brief moments of thought is significant. When the quick doodles come out I don’t feel like myself. I am a different part of me and it can make me anxious. I find this an interesting quality in my work. I feel more comfortable working in a strict manner making repetitive marks, more controlled and tight. It is when I am at my best. The weird sketches are important however. They free up my hand and my mind and allow for a brief moment of no rules, no control, just ideas.

I got involved in the project as I felt it would keep me drawing and thinking during the dormant period in between 3rd year and 4th year in art college (LSAD).This period can typically turn my brain off and stop drawing for a while, a momentum I did not want to lose before an important degree year where my best work would be expected. The project kept me focused and allowed me to try different ideas and not allow my drawing hand to get stiff!

As an artist, the concept of my notebook being picked up and shared with whoever wishes to access it is exciting. The notebook is a personal object and for it to be shared publically and out of context stirs things up a bit.
