Subject: Butterflies

I first saw the Notebook collection in 2013 and thought it was wonderful way of expressing art in all its shapes and forms.  As the project was open to all, what a perfect opportunity to be part of this great artistic flow.

As an amateur, I love to draw and paint on silk and I have always been fascinated by butterflies.  So what better subject than this delicate little creature on its journey to becoming a vision of beauty, with its spectacular markings and colours.  Silk seemed the perfect medium for these images, as it too is both natural and delicate. No great skill was required to draw the subject and I just allowed the colours to flow into the silk.

To share my experience, I asked my young niece, Eavan, if she would like to include some of her paintings in my notebook, which she happily did, so we both got great pleasure in creating our own little work of art.

I found the whole experience very enjoyable,  and whether it is to showcase your talent or privately putting your own thoughts and feelings onto paper, it should always be encouraged.

Thanks to Kildare Arts for making this possible.
