Devine

Artist, illustrator, graphic designer. Often it is only the finished product that is shown to the audience.

I started this sketchbook without an outcome in mind in order to observe the effect that foreknowledge of the exhibition would have on my work. While I expected some change, I did not anticipate it to be as drastic as it was. The drawings were self conscious and restrained. My style changed, neither conforming to my commercial work nor my personal sketchbooks.

As a sketchbook it does not show much of I would comfortably call my own practice, nor is it the kind of work I would normally take ownership of in public. As a result, though it is not beautiful, it has been an interesting exploration into my own artistic practice and boundaries. Although, as a designer, my work is usually intended for public viewing, showing that part of the process which is normally private and intimate was awkward and ultimately was not (aesthetically) successful. Nonetheless I feel it is an experience I would like to repeat.

I’m a recent graduate of the National College of Art & Design, where I studied Art & Design History & Visual Communications and I’m currently living in Dublin working as a freelance designer and illustrator.
